Can Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy be covered by my Home Care Package?
Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy can be included in your Home Care Package. Your home care provider can inform you if you have funds for Speech Pathology. This will be indicated in your My Aged Care support plan.
Speech Pathology can support you in:
- Eating and drinking difficulties.
- Deciding the right type of food and drink that is safe to eat, drink and swallow.
- Communication (Speaking, using and understanding language).
You may choose to have the Speech Pathologist visit you in your home or come into the centre. Travel fees will apply.
Occupational Therapy can support you in:
- recovery or develop skills needed for daily living and working.
- assessing the person’s needs and provide therapy sessions. This is tailored to improve their ability to perform daily activities both at home and in other environments.
How can I find a Home Care Provider
Following your approval to receive a Home Care Package, you should look for approved home care providers in your local area to find out:
- how they can best service your needs
- the fees and costs and
- what they mean any other additional services they offer and their associated costs.
You can find a provider by:
- using the Find a Provider tool on the My Aged Care website myagedcare.gov.au to search and compare providers, including their prices for a number of services; or
- Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. The person you speak to can give you a list of local home care providers. They can provide it over the phone or send it to you in the post.
