Join our fun, supportive handwriting readiness program for young children.

Help your child build the skills they need for writing, learning, and confidence at school.

At Innerlink Therapy, our Ready, Set, Write Program of Support is a small group occupational therapy program designed for children in preschool, kindergarten, and Year 1 who need support with fine motor development, pencil skills, pre-writing, and early handwriting confidence. The program is delivered by occupational therapists within a family-centred, evidence-based practice that supports communication, motor development, emotional wellbeing, and daily participation.

Secure your place:

This program has been designed for children attending preschool, Kindergarten and Year 1.

Who is this program for?

This program is ideal for children who:

  • avoid drawing or writing tasks
  • find it hard to hold a pencil comfortably
  • tire quickly during fine motor activities
  • need support with lines, shapes, letters, or writing their name
  • would benefit from building confidence before or during the early school years

What your child will work on

Across the program, children build skills in:

  • fine motor strength and endurance
  • pencil grasp and control
  • hand-eye coordination
  • pre-writing lines and shapes
  • name recognition and name writing
  • attention, participation, and confidence in group learning

Innerlink Therapy provides occupational therapy for toddlers, school-aged students, and adults, with support in areas including sensory processing, social and emotional learning, executive functioning, and fine and gross motor skills. The clinic describes its approach as safe, friendly, experienced, family-centred, and evidence-based, with in-clinic and online services available.

Our handwriting readiness program reflects that same approach:

  • small and supportive group format
  • play-based and engaging sessions
  • structured skill progression
  • practical focus on school participation and everyday function
  • clear communication with families

How the program works

Program length: 6 weeks
Session time: 45 minutes
Group size: Maximum of 6 children
Age group: Preschool, Kindergarten, and Year 1

Each session includes:

  • a warm-up for regulation and readiness
  • greeting and orientation activities
  • movement-based tasks for motor planning
  • tabletop fine motor and handwriting activities
  • a calm transition and parent handover.

What makes this program different?

This is not just a worksheet-based writing group.

Our program is designed to support the foundations that sit underneath handwriting, including body readiness, hand strength, motor planning, visual-motor integration, and confidence. Sessions use a neuro-affirming, play-based occupational therapy approach to help children feel capable, supported, and ready to learn.

Program outcomes
We look at progress in areas such as:

  • pencil grasp quality
  • tracing and copying shapes
  • name writing ability
  • participation and attention
  • parent-reported functional change

Is this right for my child?

  • attend to a tabletop task for around 5 minutes
  • participate in a small group
  • follow simple adult instructions
